Q: How do I get deep waves? A: To get deep waves, here are the essential steps and products:
- Brush and Durag: At the core of your wave journey are a high-quality brush and a 26 King Wavy Silk DuRag. These are the essential tools you need to start.
- Daily Brushing: Use a curved brush for better head coverage and a flat brush to break forks (when waves crash into each other). Consistent brushing is key to deepening your wave pattern.
- Natural Products: For healthy hair and scalp, use natural products like 26 King Wavy's butter moisturizer and pomade. The butter moisturizer promotes hair growth and softness, while the pomade provides a light hold without the heavy, greasy feel.
- Shampoo Bars: Utilize 26 King Wavy's shampoo bars for washing styles. These bars help train your hair to lay down and maintain cleanliness. Washing 1-2 times a week is ideal.
- Hair Growth Oil: Complement your routine with 26 King Wavy's Hair Growth Oil. Apply it after using either the butter moisturizer or pomade to strengthen your hair, particularly around the crown area.
- Regular Maintenance: Keep your hair at the right length (between a 2 and 3.5 guard) and use natural products to avoid hair damage from chemical-based products.
The first reason you're not able to get waves is because your hair is too short. You need curls in your hair, so you need to reach your curl length to get waves. If your hair is always cut super short, you won't be able to get waves. Grow your hair to your curl length, and when you go to a barber, tell them to keep some curls on your head. A good length to start at is around a two guard.
The second reason you can't get waves is if your hair is too long. If your hair is too long, you can't manage your curls. You need to cut your hair down to a manageable length, typically between a 2 and a 3.5 guard, depending on your curl texture.
The third reason is you're not brushing or combing enough. You need to train your hair to lay down, which requires constant brushing, combing, and wearing a durag.
The next reason is not wearing your durag. A durag protects and compresses your waves. Wear it every night, at the gym, or when you're out and about to save your progress and protect your pattern.
Heat or sweat can also affect your waves by causing frizz. Be mindful of this, especially during hot months.
Lastly, not doing the wash and style method correctly can hinder your wave progress. It's a great method to lay down your curls, but it must be done correctly.
Q: I don’t like the space between the crown and my durag. How do I get rid of that and do you sell crown patches? A: Crown patches are a great solution to this issue. They help keep your crown area locked in and prevent your durag from shifting. You can either make your own crown patch using a silky material or buy one. Simply cut a square from a silky durag and place it over your crown before putting on your durag. This method helps keep your crown area neat and intact, especially during the early stages of wave development and when wolfing. We do not sell crown patches.
